DWG backward compatibility
CAD Forum lists AutoCAD versions and their compatibility with individual DWG formats, including the SaveAs support for saving older versions of DWG files.

Political map changes between AutoCAD releases
If you compare the country list presented in the AutoCAD 2006 registration/activation dialog with previous releases, there are some changes reflecting recent changes on the political world map (at least from the US point of view). Let us compare the country list:
- Afghanistan - added
- Antarctica - deleted
- French Southern Territories - deleted
- Heard and Mcdonald Islands - deleted
- Iraq - added
- Libya - added
- North Korea - added
- Palestinian Territory - deleted
- Samoa - deleted

Reading/Writing Real DWG files
Autodesk plans to release an API allowing software developers to read and write "genuine" DWG files in their applications. Licensing policy should be more open than the existing conditions on the ObjectDBX library.

Revit Structure
Autodesk releases a new BIM application from the Revit family - Autodesk Revit Structure. Revit Structure is a BIM tool for structural engineers. It cooperates not only with Revit Building but suprisingly also with Architectural Desktop.
